Border Trust recently completed a second allocation of grant funding specifically targeted at the recovery and relief of the Towong Shire community impacted so heavily by the 2019/20 bushfires.
$347,818 will be distributed in support of 7 projects, covering everything from youth engagement to environmental work. The funded projects will enable various programs and works to be carried out in the region over the coming twelve months.
Even though more than two years has passed since the fires, these projects will contribute to the rejuvenation and wellbeing of the broader community. We look forward to telling some of the stories about how they have evolved and about the benefits we anticipate will be felt through the region on completion.

Recipient Updates:
Corryong College – Table Tennis
This project is the vision of the Student Leadership Group(SLG) at Corryong College whereby they will transform an old concrete slab area into an “Outdoor Table Tennis Arena”.
This arena will consist of two outdoor table tennis tables, seating and shade sails covering. This provides a year round area for the students to play a sport which is inclusive of all abilities and ages.
The aim is to encourage outdoor play, social interactions and physical activity while having some fun. This will also encourage communication and connection in circumstances where that is much needed.

Corryong Wetlands Project
Over 50% of wetlands across the country have disappeared since 1900.
Stage 1 A of the Corryong Wetlands project will consist of 2 ponds fed by springs as well as re-establishing the Cemetery Creek meander. 100 plantings, 200 metres of flat walking paths, 2 bridges and a boardwalk along a carpark, the wetlands lie on the Corryong Circuit Trail and we expect the majority of our visitors to arrive on foot.
This will make it a destination for walkers and cyclists, and because the project has additional stages it will encourage volunteer participation which will provide community involvement, improved mental health and wellbeing opportunities, an outdoor interest for many, companionship, and a sense of achievement.
The site will also act as a living laboratory for school field trips.
