Helping Local Children Get Back to School in 2012
The Border Trust is proud to be associated once again with the Foundation for Regional and Rural Recovery (FRRR) "Back to School Program".
For the commencement of the 2012 school year, $50 Target vouchers totalling $27,500 have been allocated for distribution to schools across the Shires and Cities of Albury, Wodonga, Greater Hume, Indigo, Towong, Corowa, Alpine and Tumbarumba.
The Back to School Program has been running for 7 years now, with the Border Trust providing the mechanism required for the distribution of the vouchers. Since 2006, this has resulted in more than $141,650 direct support to local families.
To add to this significant amount, the QBE Foundation has awarded Border Trust with an additional $5000 to purchase another 100 vouchers, resulting in a total of 550 vouchers for local families in the 2012 round.
Schools are contacted annually and invited to register their interest with the vouchers allocated across all of those who register. The vouchers are distributed at the discretion of each school and are to assist families with the purchase of uniforms, books or other necessities.
This program is an initiative of FRRR and the Sidney Myer Fund and is supported by The Pratt Foundation, The Wyatt Benevolent Institution, The Estate of the late Edward Wilson, The Aussie Farmers Association, The Julian Flett Foundation managed by Perpetual and Target Australia.

Dear all at Border Trust,
This is our formal thank you for the support you gave the families who have had a tough time in the aftermath of the fires. It took us a while to get it organized, but we put together 'Care Packages' which had in them: Tickets to the cinemas – for whole families; vouchers for new shoes; vouchers from Target Australia – from FRRR; Teddy bears donated by the community in Canberra; and a Standard Rose. I had three children help me sort everything, Hannah, Ryan and Brady. They went very secretly about the task of ensuring all families got a bit of everything! Thank you once again for ringing us to offer more support. It is most timely. I hope you can see they have been put to good use. Yours sincerely Colleen Wilkin, Principal St Mary's Primary School, Myrtleford, 2009 |
